Finding volunteers can be a challenging task, especially here in the Fraser Valley where is is certainly no shortage of charity opportunities. Here are a few tips to help you ensure you have a reliable and responsive team of volunteers at your next event:

1. Start with people you know. Friends, family, colleagues, employees who are willing to lend a helping hand. When you’ve exhausted your personal contacts, look to volunteer networks, schools, sports teams or event volunteer specific networks.
2. Remember that just because you aren’t paying volunteers, that doesn’t mean they should receive any incentives for their time. If possible, provide refreshments, free admission to your event or free product from your client.
3. Be clear in your ask. Too often the ask for help is too vague and flippant. Especially with the fast-paced world we are living in, the ask should be direct and include specifics such as date, time required, dress code, essential skills and any other important details that might effect their decision.
